Male Exam

MALE EXAM TRAINING

June 13, 2008
8:30 am – 3:00 pm
at the Century Center in South Bend, Indiana

The goal of this day-long seminar is to provide clinicians the didactic and practice experience needed to initiate male services in a Title X setting. MPRES will require follow-up reporting from all participants in order to evaluate the impact of the training on the services provided to male patients in Region V. Participants will meet at the Century Center in the morning for lecture and discussion, followed by a supervised practice lab at the Olive Street Clinic in the afternoon. Each attendee will receive a copy of the updated MPRES training manual Male Reproductive Healthcare in the Title X Clinic as a take-home clinic resource.

PRESENTER: Demetrius Porche, DNS, ARNP is the Dean of the Louisiana State University School of Nursing, recognized by numerous organizations for his contributions to male health and nursing leadership. Dr. Porche is featured in the MPRES self-study DVD Male Reproductive Health: Interview, Exam and Treatment of Common Genital Disorders.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
7:30 – 8:30 Registration and Continental Breakfast
8:30 – 12:30 Lecture and discussion

  • Review of reproductive anatomy and sexual development
  • Practices to promote patient and provider comfort
  • Components of the male health history
  • Conducting the male genital exam
  • Common genital disorders and STIs
12:30-1:15 LUNCH – provided at Century Center
1:15 – 1:30 Travel to Olive Street Clinic
1:30 – 3:30 Male exam practice lab with 'teaching patients'

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION CREDIT: 5.5 contact hours offered through MPRES

LOCATION: The Century Center is located at 120 S. St. Joseph Street (Hwy 31), in South Bend, Indiana. It is connected by skywalk to the Downtown South Bend Marriott hotel, but there are less expensive hotels within walking distance. The Olive Street Clinic is 2.2 miles west at 244 S. Olive Street. Transportation to the clinic will be provided for those participants without cars.

REGISTRATION: The seminar is FREE, but available only to clinicians employed by a Title X funded agency in Region V committed to initiating or expanding male services. Space is limited to 20 participants. Participants are responsible for all travel and stay expenses.
